volunteers to donate their time in the Food Pantry or the Senior Services or Health Services departments. Service hours will be given.

Orland Township 
Pet Pantry

 Residents in need, who meet specific qualifications, can now receive assistance in caring for a pet through the Orland Township Pet Pantry, which is currently open.

The Pet Pantry stocks pet food, supplies, toys, litter and pet accessories for residents struggling to care for a loving pet. All of the pet supplies are donated by local merchants, such as Walmart, PETCO and Costco and no tax dollars were used to fund the Pet Pantry.

Youth Commission Collecting Cans for 
Pet Pantry

The Orland Township Youth Commission is  currently collecting aluminum cans to raise funds for the Pet Pantry.

Aluminum cans can be dropped off at the Township office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, 
8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The donated cans will be then brought to a local recycling company and exchanged for a monetary amount, which will then be given to the Pet Pantry to purchase various pet items.

Orland Township Open for 2011 Cook County 
Board of Review Appeals

Orland Township is now open to accept 2011 Board of Review Assessment Appeals.  Any resident who feels their property is overvalued may file an appeal.  Our appeal filing period begins Tuesday, January 10, 2012 and ends Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Effective with the 2011 tax year “On-Line” appeal filing is a new option now available to all Cook County residents.  Complete and easy to follow instructions can be located at: www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.  The filing deadline for all online appeals is 11:30 P.M. February 8.

 If you need assistance in preparing your appeal, please call the Orland Township Assessor’s Office at 708-403-4222 to schedule an appointment.   Please call at your earliest convenience as our appointment schedules fill up quickly.  The township also has a limited supply of appeal forms available as do the Board of Review Offices in the Markham or Bridgeview Courthouse.  Appeal forms can also be downloaded directly from the Board of Review website: www.cookcountyboardofreview.com. 

The filing deadline for any paper appeal forms is 5:00 P.M. February 8, 2012.  The last day the Orland Township Assessor’s Office will accept 2011 appeals is Monday, February 6 to ensure delivery to the Board of Review Office by the February 8 filing deadline.  

The Orland Township Assessor’s Office will continue to assist residents in preparing 2011 appeals through February 8, but residents will need to either take the appeal directly to the Post Office for the appeal to be post-marked by the February 8 appeal deadline or the appeal can be dropped off at the Board of Review Offices in the Markham or Bridgeview Courthouse.

2012 Scholarship Applications

Applications for the 2012 Orland Township Scholarship Program are now available. Please click here.

22 scholarships, totaling $16, 500, will be awarded: one $2,000 scholarship, eight $1,000 scholarships and 13 $500 scholarships.

The Orland Township Scholarship Foundation will select and award scholarship recipients based on a combination of the applicant’s leadership skills, dedication to community service, academic focus, participation in extracurricular activities, recommendations from school representatives, volunteer supervisors or employers, an assigned essay question response and any other pertinent information requested within the application. Students faced with hardships will be given strong consideration.  

Scholarships, completed in their entirety, must be delivered to Orland Township, 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park, IL 60462, by Friday, March 2, 2012. Orland Township is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

An additional scholarship opportunity is also available. Applications for the Township Officials of Illinois Scholarship are available here. Applications are due Thursday, March 1, 2012 and should be mailed to Township Officials of Illinois, Attn.: Scholarship Committee, 3217 Northfield Drive, Springfield, Illinois 62702.

Senior Trip to Washington, DC

The Senior Services Department is hosting an upcoming trip to Washington, DC on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 through Saturday, May 5, 2012.
 
The trip includes motor coach transportation, hotel accommodation, eight meals (two deluxe continental breakfasts, two breakfasts, four dinners), illuminated monument tours, including the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial and visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the National World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court of the United States, the Kennedy Center, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Flight 93 National Memorial.
 
Tickets are now on sale; proof of residency is required. The trip price, per person, is $1,569 for a single occupancy, $1,219 for a double occupancy and $1,199 for a triple occupancy. A $100 trip cancellation or interruption insurance premium is available and must be purchased with the initial payment.
