The State of Illinois believes everyone deserves access to good, affordable health care and no senior or person with a disability should have to worry about how to pay for the high cost of prescription drugs. Illinois Cares Rx provides state prescription assistance to people with and without Medicare. Illinois Cares Rx provides two prescription drug benefits: Illinois Cares Rx Plus and Illinois Cares Rx Basic.
Illinois Cares Rx Plus
Adults 65 years of age or older who
✦are U.S. citizens or qualified immigrants;
✦have a total annual income of no more than $21,780 ($29,470 for couples).
If you qualify, Illinois Cares Rx Plus covers almost all prescription drugs.
Illinois Cares Rx Basic.
Adults 65 years of age or older or people with disabilities, aged 16 and over and have a total annual income of
✦no more than $21,780 if you are filing an application for yourself;
✦no more than $29,470 if you are filing an application for you and your spouse or one qualified additional resident;
✦less than $37,060 if you are filing an application for you, your spouse and one other qualified additional resident or for you and at least two qualified additional residents.
If you qualify, Illinois Cares Rx Basic will cover prescription drugs that treat 11 common diseases: Alzheimers disease, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease and its related conditions, HIV/AIDS (if eligible for Medicare), lung disease and smoking-related illnesses, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and Parkinsons disease.
If you have Medicare, Illinois Cares Rx will help pay for drugs on your coordinating Medicare Part D prescription drug plan's list of covered drugs (formulary).
To qualify for IllinoisCares Rx people with Medicare must apply for Medicare’s Extra Help from Social Security and be in a coordinating Medicare drug plan to maximize benefits.

Illinois Cares Rx
Orland Township offers assistance with completing state and federal tax forms to area seniors in need. The tax preparers are volunteers who have been trained through AARP and PLOWS Council on Aging.
The following documents are needed in order to complete the forms: last year’s tax return, real estate tax bill, a Social Security statement, any interest statements or 1099 forms and any additional documentation of importance. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (708) 403-4222.
Circuit Breaker/License Plate Discount
The Orland Township Activity Center is open on Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Residents have the opportunity to play cards and bingo while enjoying a refreshments. A healthy snack is always provided and on occasion, sandwiches, hot dogs or pizzas are served. This popular social opportunity offers seniors a place to gather and make new friends. Residents may participate both days.
Senior Drop-In Center
If your income is less than $27,610 for a one person household, or $36,635 for a two-person household, and you are 65 years of age or older, or disabled, you may qualify for the Circuit Breaker/License Plate Discount. Income Tax Assistance
This is a review test for those who are required to take the written or driving tests in order to renew their driver’s license. This FREE class is offered six times a year.
Rules of the Road
Orland Township is an RTA key center, providing photo service and registration. Senior citizens, ages 65 and older, can register, in person, for the Seniors Ride Free card. Individuals who are disabled and are receiving help through the State of Illinois program IL-1363 may also register for the free ride program. There is a $5.00 fee for Orland Township residents, non-residents pay an $8.00 fee.
RTA Ride Free Permit
This two-day class is designed to help older drivers improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. Course completion may qualify participants for a discount on the liability portion of one’s automobile insurance. Classes are held in the Orland Township Activity Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Participants must attend both days. There is a $12.00 fee for AARP members and a $14.00 fee for non-members. This fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Registration is required. Call (708) 403-4222 for additional information.
55 Alive Defensive Driving Class
Orland Township’s FREE Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides assistance to seniors in need of help with Medicare claims and statements, as well as help with Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage.
Counselors, trained and certified with the Illinois Department of Insurance, are available by appointment to answer questions about Medicare and Medicare Supplemental Insurance.
