Unanimously approved upon by Scholarship Foundation President Paul O’Grady and the Board of Directors, 22 scholarships totaling $16, 500 will be awarded to members of the class of 2013: one $2,000 scholarship, eight $1,000 scholarships and 13 $500 scholarships.
“As the price of a college education continues to rise, we are pleased to offer this financial opportunity to a new group of local scholars,” said O’Grady. “Each year we recognize individual students who put forth the maximum amount of effort towards their high school careers.”
The Orland Township Scholarship Foundation will select and award scholarship recipients based on a combination of the applicant’s leadership skills, dedication to community service, academic focus, participation in extracurricular activities, recommendations from school representatives, references from volunteer supervisors or employers, an assigned essay question response and any other pertinent information requested within the application. Students faced with hardships will be given strong consideration.
